Greetings from the new board members

The 17th President

September 1, 2023

I am Hirohiko Ohtsuka of Seikagaku Corporation, and it is a great honor for me to have been elected the President of Japanese Society of Comparative and Veterinary Ophthalmology.
I look forward to working with you.

For the past 10 years, since the 14th term, the board members has been gradually changing, with one or two members being elected every three years. For the 17th term, three board members were replaced and two members joined the board additionally, and thus a total of five new board members were welcomed.

The management of the association has become more complex in recent years due to the computerization of administrative functions, the enrichment and establishment of various educational programs, and the increase in global scientific exchanges with Europe, U.S. and Asia. Concomitantly, the administrative workload has also become enormous. In order to cope with this, the roles of the board members have been subdivided and the number of board members has had to be increased to manage the association applicably. In particular, during the 16th term, the most recent three-year period, COVID-19 infection spread, and various activities such as the annual meeting, some seminars, and activities by the clinical subcommittee and basic subcommittee were postponed or held online, which had a significant impact on the activities of our society. Even under such circumstances, we were able to carry out several activities such as professional examinations and the basic educational course by modifying the default rules. In addition, a guideline was formulated to address future harassment issues. In this way, we have been able to be adapted to and overcome the changes of the times thanks to the efforts of the former President Dr. Sasaki, the former board members, and the other related members.
In the next three years, under the new organization with young board members, we would like to take on the challenge of new initiatives and attempts to contribute to the continuous development of our society. Although the problems faced by clinical veterinary ophthalmologists and fundamental ophthalmologists are different in some respects, we believe that we can propose better solutions by cooperating with each other and exchanging our experiences and knowledge.

I believe that we will be able to keep up with the times and realize the continuous development of our society by gradually rejuvenating the board of directors. I would like to ask for your understanding and support as we continue to build on what our predecessors have established and work together with the members of the Japanese Society of Comparative and Veterinary Ophthalmology to achieve further growth.

The 17th President of the Japanese Society of Comparative and Veterinary Ophthalmology,
Hirohiko Ohtsuka

The 16th President

Dear fellow members of JSCVO,

We will always be grateful for all the efforts you have made to contribute to health of your patients and mitigating risks of ocular toxicities in developing and developed materials.
An election for new board members was held this spring. Accordingly, the board members will be renewed after approval at the General Meeting in the 42 Annual Meeting of JSCVO. We would like to ask for your continued support and cooperation for them.
At the 42 Annual Meeting of JSCVO, Dr. Masato Hara, Professor of Faculty of Law, Seikei University, will give an educational lecture titled "The Law of Harassment." This educational lecture will be a meaningful opportunity for both members who have been firmly aware and those who have not, to learn harassment and the issues surrounding it. With regards to harassment, our society has been working on forming a preventive system and has prepared a guideline. Please refer to the guideline posted on “My Page”, a members-only website. A guideline needs to be updated over time to keep up with the latest situation. Therefore, we would like to receive your opinions and make the guideline become more practical.
Lastly, as one of outgoing board members, I would like to thank you all for your continued support. With this reshuffling of board members, several board members, including me, will end their roles. Even so, we are sure to continuously cooperate with the growth and development of our society. Thank you very much for your guidance and understanding.

Best regards,
Shoji Sasaki
